The Relevant Stage has added to its umbrella of services, The Poppins Project – outreach to under-served Senior Citizens in the South Bay.
In addition to free performances of our main stage shows in which Senior Citizens 55+ are assisted in attending musical theatre performances at Warner Grand Theatre, TRS now offers through The Poppins Project, services to assisted care facilities throughout the Los Angeles South Bay as well as career opportunities for actors/actresses; singers, dancers who wish to share their talents bringing theatre arts to the elderly.
Carla Negri is the founder of The Poppins Project and has been bringing entertainment to seniors since 1997. Currently Negri provides service to over 18 care homes bringing music appreciation, holiday art projects, games and sing-along entertainment.
Diana Dupont focuses on motion exercises, trivia, current events, and entertains by utilizing music from the 1940’s and 50’s.
Rita Kerstiens provides Bingo, ball (hand and eye coordination) and trivia games. She also docents nature and travel videos.
Milinda Meehan is a variety artist encompassing the sounds of Big Band, Broadway, Country, and more. She offers vocal concerts, and performs with duo and trio vocal groups.
Group and individual activities offered by Poppins Project Facilitators include:
- Singing in many different styles
- Dancing ballet , tap, and Broadway
- Piano/keyboard performances of familiar music
- Easy art : coloring, multi-media collage
- Simple holiday craft projects: coloring Easter eggs, making Xmas ornaments from recycled materials, sponge-painted flags for patriotic holidays
- Games : trivia and reminiscing games, visual memory recognition, dice and dominoes
- Mad-Libs goofy stories for holidays
- Film score/theme recognition games
- Name that tune for songs/artists, etc…
- Art for the blind and music for the deaf are custom tailored programs for those with reduced sense function
- Pet Stops (pet visits with small dog/cat)
- Garden Day visits with flower recognition, sensory stimulus
- Dancing with clients (ambulatory or non)
- Range of motion exercises
- Music appreciation : classical, Broadway, big band, folk, country, ethnic, jazz, and popular singers
- Name that instrument game (with music)
